Born in Hatfield, Ontario, Canada. Lived in Northfield, Washington county, Vermont. Built the first brick house and chimney in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Moved to Azatlan, Jeffeson county, Wisconsin about 1838. One of five who signed the incorporation papers creating the town of Nashua, Chickasaw county, Iowa. Was Nashua, Iowa's second mayor. After the death of his wife Matilda, Russell moved to California to be closer to his sons.
